Our Roots

Founded as SmartiPants Technologies, the company was built on the belief that Africa’s future lies in equipping youth and professionals with the skills needed to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. With a deep focus on mechatronics, robotics, AI, and IoT, SmartiPants partnered with clients such as UBER, Vodacom, Microsoft, eThekwini Municipality, Qhakaza Girl IT, MUT, and Innovate Durban to create a robust skills pipeline for the African economy.

Through our work in education and skills training, we identified a critical gap—industries were in dire need of the very expertise we were instilling in young minds. This realization led to the birth of MAichatron as an EdTech robotic kit manufacturer, supplying schools, the Department of Education, and Vodacom with hands-on learning tools to advance STEM education in South Africa.

However, our vision extended beyond education. Leveraging the technical expertise built through training and product development, MAichatron took the leap into professional engineering services.
